Alan Dorman Coker, 78, of Greer, beloved husband of Frances Alston Coker, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, at TerraBella Thornblade.

The son of the late Van Dorman and Junelle McElveen Coker, he was born in Sumter, SC, and grew up in Turbeville, SC, where he graduated in 1966 from East Clarendon High School. Alan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University in 1971, later attaining multiple state Professional Engineer certifications. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by J.E. Sirrine Company (later Jacobs Engineering) for 43 years.

Alan was a man of strong faith, as was reflected in his love of family and service to others. After his conversion to the Catholic faith at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Taylors, SC, Alan remained a committed and active Catholic, participating in The Perpetual Adoration Guild of St. Thomas Aquinas; serving as a Eucharistic Minister, taking Communion to the sick and homebound; and serving on various committees and outreach ministries. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 54 years are a son, Brian Coker (Kelly Murtaugh) of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Erin Watkins (Travis) of Easley; a brother, Neil Coker (Beth) of Simpsonville; a sister, June Plowden (William) of Columbia, SC; and three grandchildren, Brody and Landry Watkins and Brooks Coker.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. at The Church of the Ascension, 5190 Highway 261 N., Hagood (Rembert), SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pruitt Hospice & Palliative Care, 301 Halton Road, Greenville, SC 29607 or Prince of Peace Catholic Church "Peace in Progress Campaign," 1209 Brushy Creek Road, Taylors, SC, 29687.
