Alma Welch Locklair

Alma Welch Locklair, a beloved resident of Florence County, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on July 6, 1934, Alma was a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

Alma dedicated her life to her family and community as a homemaker and talented seamstress. Her warmth and care were felt by all who knew her. Alma was an active member of Salem Free Will Baptist Church, where she found great joy and spiritual fulfillment. She was also a former member of the First Baptist Church of Turbeville, reflecting her lifelong commitment to her faith.

She is survived by her devoted son, Walt Locklair, and his wife Selena of Turbeville; grandsons Chase Locklair and Tyler Locklair, also of Turbeville. Alma will be dearly missed by her: brother's children, Nancy Swaringen, Derrick Welch, and Earl Welch of North Carolina as well as many other nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Alma was preceded in death by her loving parents, Dave and Inez Beard Welch; her husband, Walton Bedney Locklair; and her brother, Lorain Welch. Her legacy of kindness and love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Alma’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Floyd Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Free Will Baptist Church, 2337 McAllister Mill Road, Scranton, SC 29591, in Alma’s memory. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Richard Floyd, Margaret McKenzie, Angela Crouch, and the compassionate team at Agape Care for their dedicated support.
