It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Ann White Coker announce her passing on Friday, September 12, 2025 while a resident at Pinedale Residential Center in Camden, South Carolina.
Betty Ann was born in Florence County, December 1, 1941, she was the oldest of six children to the late Harold Reaves White, Sr. and Vide Rebecca Kirby White.
She retired from Florence County District 3 after 25 years of service. She was a member of Turbeville First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Dicey Gibbons Circle and the Ladies Median II class. She also served as Chairperson of the Homecoming Committee, the Recreation Committee and several Pastoral Search Committees. She and her husband were also recipients of Turbeville First Baptist Smyrna Service Award.

One of her greatest joys was serving the senior citizens of her church and community. She planned many recreation trips, special meals and weekly delivered tapes to seniors who were unable to attend church.

Surviving are her daughters, Phyllis Coker Gowdy (Derek) of Hilton Head Island, SC and Melissa Coker Porter (Ronnie) of Hilton Head Island, SC; her one and only grandchild, Natalie Grace Porter of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, June Harrelson (John) of Lexington, SC and Brenda Perkins (Bucky) of Darlington, SC; two brothers, Rev. Jerry White (Ann) of Lexington, NC and Harold Reaves White, Jr, (Paula) of Hendersonville, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Phillip Purvis Coker; and one brother, Stephen Theodore White.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 2pm at First Baptist Church, located at 1020 Morris Street in Turbeville, SC. Burial will take place afterward at the church cemetery on Highway 301.
The family will have a visitation from 1 – 2pm on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in the First Baptist Church sanctuary.

Pallbearers will be Richard Floyd, Keith Gibbons, Wayne Gibbons, Jay McElveen, David Nesbitt and Mike Welch.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to Pinedale Residential Center for the love and care you provided under the direction of Phillip Hudson (administrator) and Melinda Mccaa (Nurse). A heartfelt gratitude to Tracy Buckner and Sammie Ruth for their unwavering support, care, and love. We truly could not have taken this journey without you.

We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Melba Hutto for her enduring friendship and for coordinating numerous visits to Pinedale Residential, allowing our mother to spend time with her friends from Turbeville. Also, to Ethel Garland who provided years of care and support for both of our parents.
