Delores Ann Morris McElveen, 78, wife of Gordon McElveen, entered her heavenly home early Sunday morning, May 17, 2026.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at McKenzie Tabernacle Pentacostal Holiness Church with Pastor Keith Britt and Pastor Douglas Filyaw officiating, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A Kingstree native, she was born on July 18, 1947, the daughter of the late A.C. Morris Jr. and Annie Coker Morris. Mrs. McElveen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord. She was a charter member of McKenzie Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she faithfully attended until her health no longer allowed.
Beginning in her mid-twenties, she devoted herself to the church’s youth ministries, directing Vacation Bible School and Children’s Ministries for many years. She also played the piano and organ and loved singing about God's faithfulness. Delores faithfully led the church’s Fruit Basket Ministry, which continues today. Even after she was no longer able to get out often, she continued to minister to others through cards and prayers of encouragement.
Delores was a retired homemaker and longtime columnist for the News in Kingstree. Many looked forward to her column, which kept the New Zion community informed of local happenings and prayer needs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa McElveen; her sister, Brenda Morris Fulton. Those left to cherish her memories include her loving husband, Gordon McElveen; one son, Timmy McElveen (JoAnn); two daughters, Sonia McElveen, Crystal Floyd (Benji); seven grandchildren, Codie McElveen, Kristan Coker (Ericson), Bailey Bryant (Josh), Annsley McElveen, Morgan Scharwath (Andrew), Hannah Tidwell (Layne), Camryn Floyd; four great-grandchildren, Linc Coker, Chapel Coker, Ellie Bryant, Riley Tidwell; one brother, Cleve Morris( Nancy); two sisters, Paula Coker, Naomi Carmichael (Leo); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, especially Heather, Howard, Angela, Tabitha, Ashley, and Carey, for the excellent care shown during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McKenzie Tabernacle PH Church, 2591 Fire Tower Road, New Zion, SC 29111, or to a charity of one’s choice.
