Hilma Floyd Prosser passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the age of 101.

Born in Olanta, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Russell Floyd, Sr. and Mettie Hicks Floyd. She attended Olanta schools and graduated from Winthrop College in 1945, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in music. She was a retired elementary school teacher, serving students in Estill, SC; Sanford, NC; Turbeville, SC; and her hometown of Olanta. A gifted musician, she began playing in church at the age of 16 and continued for many years, also teaching piano to children in the Olanta community. She served as the longtime organist at Bethel Baptist Church, a role she cherished until the age of 93. She was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Louetta Strickland Sunday School Class.

She will be remembered by her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt whose love and steady presence were deeply cherished.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Benjamin Everett Prosser.

She is survived by her daughter, Caroline Kissam (Michael) of Greenville, SC, and her two grandchildren, Katherine Marks (Jeremy) of Charlotte, NC, and Benjamin Kissam of Greenville, SC.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026,  at 11:00 AM at Bethel Baptist church.  The family will receive guests on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in the church cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 1520 N. Jones Road, Olanta, SC 29114.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the many family members and friends in the Olanta community that loved and supported Mrs. Hilma in her later years at home and to the wonderful healthcare providers at NHC Mauldin and Wren Hospice.
