It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Jean Powell Boykin, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, and cherished friend to many, who departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at her residence in Turbeville, SC. Born on July 2, 1947, Jean was a lifelong resident of Turbeville and was deeply rooted in her community.
A licensed cosmetologist, Jean was the proud owner and operator of Snips Salon, where she passionately served her clients for many years. Her skill, combined with her dedication to her craft, left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of sitting in her chair.
Jean is survived by her loving daughters, Brandi Boykin Parker (Wayne) of Turbeville and Brooke Boykin Wilder (Matt) of Sumter. She also leaves behind her cherished grandsons, Boykin Wilder, Ford Wilder, and Gibb Wilder, all of Sumter, who brought immense joy to her life. Her extended family includes sisters-in-law Billie Jean Hemmingway of Summerton and Annelle Powell Cusaac (Don) of Turbeville; a brother-in-law, Rod Boykin of Manning; and numerous special family members, including Helen Baxley, Wynn Blume, Dixie Bullock, Rowan Daniels, Sloane Daniels, Dorn Smith, Cameron Welsh, and Savvy Welsh as well as many other family members and friends.
Jean joins in eternal peace her husband, Jack Wayne Boykin; her parents, James William Powell and Doris Green Powell; and her brother, Jimmy Powell.
A Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Floyd Funeral Home 136 E. Main Street, Olanta, SC. All are welcome to attend as we honor and remember Jean's vibrant life and the legacy she leaves behind.
A visitation will be held at Floyd Funeral Home in Olanta, South Carolina on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 3:00 pm and at other times at Jean's home, 3402 Clarence Coker Highway, Turbeville, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Turbeville Children's Home, a cause dear to Jean's heart Send memorials to Turbeville Children's Home, P.O. Box 229, Turbeville, SC 29162.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Centerwell Home Health, MSA Hospice, MUSC Florence doctors and staff, and NHC of Sumter for all of the love and care they provided Jean in her final days.
Arrangements are provided by Floyd Funeral Home, Inc. Jean will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warm smile, generous spirit, and love for her family and community will forever remain in our hearts.
