Joseph LeRoy DuRant Joe DuRant age 54, formerly of Olanta, died April 25, 2015 in a Las Vegas, Nevada hospital after a brief illness. Funeral arrangements will be held 4:00 p.m. Thursday April 30, at Olanta Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery, conducted by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be held at Floyd Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late James Merritt DuRant, Jr. and Jean Tarte DuRant-Wheless. He was a 1978 graduate of The Carolina Academy in Lake City, SC where he was a sports standout in football and SCISA All State catcher for the baseball team. He was a 1984 graduate of Newberry College with a BS Degree in Finance and Business Administration and a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. Joe was a member of Olanta Baptist Church, and Chief Executive Officer of Cirque Energy of Detroit, Michigan. Joe was also a Board Member of the Mission Black Caucus Foundation since 2013, working to solve the many economic and social issues in the city of Detroit. Special interests included cycling, reading, recycling and family. He is survived by three daughters, Carly DuRant Yaken of Florence, Tess Alexandra DuRant of Fort Myers, FL., Brianna Jean DuRant of Clearwater, FL.; two sisters, Debbie DuRant Locklair of Florence and Cathi DuRant Coutu of Seneca; one brother, James Merritt DuRant, III of Lake City; a Step-father, Albert E. Wheless of Myrtle Beach, Step-Siblings, Al Wheless of Scottsdale, Arizona, Art Wheless of North Myrtle Beach, Ann Wheless Wessinger of Columbia, and many loving nieces and nephews.
