LAKE CITY - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John "Johnny" Pressley Fitch, Jr., who departed this world on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the age of 78. Johnny was a beloved resident of Lake City (Barrineau area), South Carolina, and was born in the warm embrace of a loving family on March 13, 1947. Her was a son of the late John P. Fitch, Sr. and Tuline Hicks Fitch.
He was a graduate of Olanta High School, where he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. He attended Clemson University before entering the US Army as a member of the 14th Armored Cavalry. After his service in the Army, he worked in Washington as an FBI investigator and later became a Metro Police Officer before returning to South Carolina to farm with his family, work as a mechanic at McKenzie Repair, and coach Little League baseball in Olanta.
A die-hard Clemson and NASCAR fan, he always enjoyed these sports as well as his love of fishing. He was a member of Nazareth United Methodist Church and the Olanta VFW Post #85.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Beth Fitch and a niece, BJ Fitch.
He is survived by his brother, Robert (Ben) Fitch; caregiver and former wife, Vicki Smith Fitch; and special friends who called him Dad and Uncle, Bryan and Bryson McKenzie, whom he loved as his own.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Thomas Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bryan McKenzie, Bryson McKenzie, Jimmy Coker, Ryan Moore, Robert "Bob" Young, and Curt Gowdy.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the home of Vicki Fitch, 769 S. Scurry Road, Lake City, SC 29560.
