Kathleen Floyd Dorrell, age 89, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026, after an illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the church. Pallbearers will be Benji Matthews, Brent Matthews, Andrew Beard, Dylan McKenzie, Carter Mixon, Josh Anderson, Randy Floyd, Wayne Floyd, Chad Floyd, and Greg McKenzie.
Born in Williamsburg County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Floyd and Earline Parker Floyd. Kathleen worked for Wentworth Industries for fifteen years, Baxter Health Care for eleven years, Dorrell’s Exxon for twenty-one years, and Granny’s Day Care for nine years. She also worked for a private family for an additional six years, providing childcare in the family’s home. She retired from Baxter Health Care with some benefits.
Kathleen was always interested in furthering her education. At age 50, she earned her GED and attended Florence-Darlington Technical College for a time.
Kathleen joined Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1966. She became involved in the Women’s Ministry in 1961 and was a member of the Women’s Adult Sunday School Class. She sang in the choir and performed special music until illness prevented her from continuing. Kathleen taught Sunday School for many years and served as the first secretary of the church’s Missions Department. She loved her church and demonstrated that love through faithful attendance. She supported her pastor and the church's activities. Over the years, she participated in many fundraisers for special projects and gave generously from her own resources.
Kathleen was an excellent seamstress and made clothing that she and Jeneen wore for many years—until Jeneen announced that she wanted a store-bought dress. She also made window treatments for her home and for many others throughout the community.
Kathleen was also known for her hard work in her yard. She was often found putting out straw, trimming shrubbery, planting and relocating flowers, tending her roses, and doing many other outdoor activities that increased the beauty of her home.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Willie Joe Dorrell; two sons, Joel Mitchell, Joe Sirah “Cye” Dorrell; one daughter, Kathy Joette Dorrell; one sister, Mattie Nell McKenzie; and three brothers, Ernest Floyd Jr., Jerald David “Butch” Floyd, Carlisle Floyd, and a special cousin who was like a brother to her, J.D. Floyd.
Surviving are her daughter, Jeneen McKenzie (Glenn) of Lake City; five grandchildren, Ashlee Boyington (Ben), Brook Mixon, Drew McKenzie, Josh Anderson, Kayla Goins (Nick); five great-grandchildren, Dylan McKenzie (Chelsea), Ashton Kelly (Caleb), Alexis Anderson, Carter Mixon, Makenzie Boyington; one great-grandchild, Paisley Anderson; one sister, Mae Bell Caulder; two special nephews, Marty McKenzie and Benji Matthews.
Memorials may be made to the Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, 3709 St. James Road, Lake City, South Carolina 29560.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of McLeod Hospice for their compassion and care.
