Myrtle Ann Gibbons

Myrtle Ann McCoy Gibbons 81, of Turbeville, S.C. passed away on August 25, 2026 after a long journey with Alzheimer’s.

Throughout her life, Ann touched the lives of many with her kindness and shining light – living a life of integrity, cherishing moments spent with her family and finding joy in the simple things. She embodied the best of qualities: abiding faith in God, unconditional love for her family and continuous learning mindset, through which she perpetually acquired new skills and hobbies. Regardless of any project embarked upon, her most characteristic saying was "Where there's a will, there's a way."

Born in Lamar, S.C., she grew up in Sumter, S.C. and graduated from Edmunds High School (Class of 1963).

Earlier in her career at East Clarendon School, she worked as a teaching assistant followed by administrative coordinator for various federal educational programs. She then spent over 20 years with the United States Postal Service in Florence, S.C. where she managed onboarding and facilitated training programs. She was also instrumental in implementing and maintaining software programs for mail processing automation.

After retirement, she pursued her artistic passion, enrolling in art classes and becoming the artist she always wanted to be – enjoying painting as much as possible, particularly focusing on birds, flowers and seascapes.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wayne Gibbons of Turbeville, S.C.; daughter, Kelli Gibbons; brother-in-law, Glenn (Gail) Gibbons of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Rocky) Pearce of Florence, S.C. and Judy McNair of Columbia, S.C.; nephews, Tate Gibbons and Tyler (Lacey) Gibbons of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., David (Julie) Coker, Michael Coker and Jason (Casey) Coker of Florence, S.C., Wylie (Lacey) Pearce of Greenville, S.C. and Robert (Ashley) McNair and Billy McNair of Columbia, S.C.; nieces, Janice (Wayne) Hughes and Nancy (Dean) Parker of Sumter, S.C.

She was a member of Turbeville First Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Turbeville First Baptist Church Memorial Garden located at 16345 US-301, Turbeville, S.C.
