William Murdock "Doc" Mckenzie

William Murdock McKenzie New Zion Mr. William Murdock 'Doc' McKenzie, age 79, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 peacefully at home after a long illness. He was born March 8, 1933 in Williamsburg County, a son of the late William M. And Camilla Bryant McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie attended Williamsburg County Schools and attended the University of South Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War, served on the Board of Trustees for Clarendon County School District 3 and the Board of Directors of the F.E. DuBose Vocational Center in Manning. He was the Governor of the Kingstree Moose Lodge, serving two consecutive terms. He was a retired farmer, owner and operator of McKenzie Motors in Kingstree; worked for Liberty Life and United Life Insurance Companies as a sales representative where he won many awards for his outstanding service until his retirement. Mr. McKenzie was an avid sportsman; he loved golf, fishing, hunting, stock car racing, and was a very devoted fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks. He was a member of the Olanta Baptist Church where he previously served on the finance committee, and attended Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. McKenzie is preceded in death by a son, William 'Dock' McKenzie and a brother, Ryan Odell 'Bull' McKenzie. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Shelby Morris McKenzie of New Zion. A son, Tony McKenzie of New Zion, two daughters, Wynn Stingel of Effingham and Renea Wilson Jenco (Daniel) of Lake City. A granddaughter, Allyson 'Ally' Moody (Dusty Benton) who has been his devoted nurse and caretaker for many years. Six grandchildren, six great grandchildren. Two brothers, Troy (Bunny) McKenzie and Mike (Kathy) McKenzie both of Kingstree. Three sisters, Annette M. (James) Ardis of Surfside Beach, Ola M. (Laverne) Love of Kingstree and Delores M. Taylor of Beaufort. Many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the Olanta Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be 6-8p.m. Friday, June 29, 2012 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church, 188 Delos Road, Kingstree, S.C. 29518.
